Week 8
1. Photo of the week: What impressed you to take it, select and write about this photo?
My birthday was on October 15th, and luckily, I got to watch an NBA preseason match between the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. I was already very familiar with LeBron James and Stephen Curry, and I had always wanted to see them play. Just being able to watch this game felt like a huge birthday present and a memory I will never forget. Although the game ended in a victory for the Golden State Warriors, it was a great experience to see LeBron James' son, Bronny James, and to watch both LeBron and Curry play—I was constantly amazed.
2. New person (outside of DASL) that you met? How did you or the person initiate the encounter, what made the encounter challenging or easy, and how did it help you?
My American friends threw a birthday party for me this past Friday. About 15 people came to celebrate, and it was truly a touching day since it had been a long time since I last had a birthday party at home. In Korea, birthday celebrations with friends usually involve going to a restaurant, but here in the U.S., having a party at home with a homemade cake and food made the experience feel much more special and enjoyable.
3. What institutional or American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?
It was an interesting day because having a birthday party at home with friends is quite common here, which is different from what I'm used to in Korea. It was surprising to see how typical it is to celebrate this way.
4. What did you learn about yourself?
Through the process of designing and assembling components for Zahir's telescopic pipe, I realized that there are many important aspects to consider when designing a particular structure. This activity made me aware that my attention to detail in this area was lacking.
5. What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?
The design and assembly of Zahir's telescopic pipe have been fully completed, and next week, I plan to remotely operate it for the first time. Additionally, with the UNLV Homecoming event scheduled for October 23rd, I will conduct final tests to ensure that Furo functions properly and that ChatGPT conversations run smoothly.
