Week 5
1. Photo of the week: What impressed you to take it, select and write about this photo?
When I was in Korea, I was part of a soccer team and even participated in soccer tournaments. Last Wednesday, my soccer team had the university intramural soccer final, and the match started at 2 AM US time. Although we didn't win this time, marking the end of our five-year challenge for the championship, after watching the game, I am now determined to participate myself next year and win.
2. New person (outside of DASL) that you met? How did you or the person initiate the encounter, what made the encounter challenging or easy, and how did it help you?
I didn’t meet any new people, but I was able to go shopping with friends I already knew. Although I didn’t buy any clothes, it was a nice visit, like going for a walk.
3. What institutional or American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?
I feel like I'm almost fully adapting to American culture and life. Although I didn’t learn anything new about American culture this week, I definitely want to continue learning about the house party culture in the U.S., as it's something I'm really eager to understand.
4. What did you learn about yourself?
I still consistently feel a lack in my English skills. My speaking has improved to some extent, but my listening sometimes falters if I'm not fully focused. I realize I need to make more effort to improve in this area. Also, although I used to handle design and analysis software frequently, it feels unfamiliar now since I haven’t used it in a while, so I think I need to practice it again.
5. What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?
Zahir assigned me a task, and over the past weekend, I worked on the structural design to solve it and completed the stress analysis using analysis software. During this process, I was able to reacquaint myself with the usage of analysis programs I had momentarily forgotten, especially Abaqus and Recurdyn.
