Week 3
Photo of the week
New person (outside of DASL) that you met
This week, I met Gabriel, a friend of my suitemate. He’s from Florida and studying Computer Science here in Vegas from UNLV. We talked about life in Florida vs Vegas. He misses the beaches, while he also told me about the desert and Vegas nightlife. We also discussed his major. he’s focused on AI and ML.
What institutional or American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?
I went to a concert at Allegiant Stadium this weekend, and it was amazing! The energy was so high, the stadium was huge, and the show was incredible. I had heard about big concerts in the U.S., but seeing one in person was on another level. It made me appreciate how Vegas is a major hub for entertainment and big events.
What did you learn about yourself?
I discovered that I really enjoy 3D printing and using design software like Fusion 360. This week, I spent time designing 3D model of a mini robot key chain and printing them. It was so cool to see my ideas come to life! I also worked with the NXT LEGO motor mechanism, which was fun and helped me understand how motors and gears work together. I realized I like working on projects where I can be hands-on and creative at the same time.
What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?
I made good progress with 3D printing and fusion this week. I learned how to design and print my own models, and I got better at thinking about how things will be built. I also worked with the NXT LEGO motor mechanism, learning about how motors work and how to control them. It was a great hands-on experience that helped me understand design and mechanics better.
