Week 15

Photo of the week

I learned how to do screen printing from Francis. The process involved placing a screen over a T-shirt and spreading ink to transfer the design onto the fabric. Some parts of the ink clumped together, while other areas didn't get printed properly. Although the process itself wasn't complicated, it was difficult to evenly spread the ink and apply the right amount of pressure. Still, I really enjoyed it because it was fun to try something new and learn a new skill.

New person (outside of DASL) that you met

Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet anyone new this week. However, I had a chance to talk at length with a lady I usually only exchanged greetings with.
Since there's no place to eat in the dorm, I usually have my meals at the Dining Commons. I often order sandwiches, and the lady who takes our sandwich orders kindly brought some cut fruit for my friends and me. She's always been friendly, so I've always enjoyed greeting her. This time, she told us she wanted to say goodbye before we return to Korea, and to thank us for always being kind. She had always been kind to us, so we were deeply touched by her gesture once again.

What institutional of American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?

I visited the Arts District in downtown with Zahir and Yehyun. There were some small exhibitions, and people were selling a variety of handmade goods, clothes, and artworks. It was colorful, lively, and full of energy. I really loved the atmosphere there. While Korea also has a vibrant nightlife, it usually revolves around drinking with close friends. In contrast, the vibe here felt more about sharing individuality and enjoying creativity together, which made the experience feel unique and refreshing.

What did you learn about yourself?

I've really been enjoying hobby projects like working on a startup, soap making, pad printing, and screen painting. In the past, I used to spend my free time resting, especially when life got busy. But now I've realized how fun and fulfilling it can be to keep learning and trying new things. Small chunks of time came together to create something meaningful, and through these hobby projects, I've come to appreciate the value of time and consistency.

What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?

I tested position control using the circuit I built. By adjusting the P, I, and D gains, I was able to reduce motor oscillations and observe more stable control performance.
