Week 12

1. Photo of the week: What impressed you to take it, select and write about this photo?

Last week, I visited the Grand Canyon through a tour organized by EIP. Although the cost of the 2-day, 1-night tour was an unbelievable $1,000, it was still an enjoyable experience. During the trip, I visited Antelope Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Route 66, and the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is famously known as a must-visit place before you die, so I had high expectations. It truly lived up to them with its immense grandeur, which felt almost surreal. The experience was so incredible that it felt like watching a movie screen—an unbelievable and majestic sight.

2. New person (outside of DASL) that you met? How did you or the person initiate the encounter, what made the encounter challenging or easy, and how did it help you?

Through this tour, I got to know other Global Buddy friends, and preparing dinner together with them was a particularly enjoyable experience for me. Helping each other and working together to make a delicious meal was something I really appreciated.

3. What institutional or American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?

Through this tour, I also got to know other Global Buddy friends. In particular, while drinking beer with American friends at the tour company's lodge at night, we talked about our views on relationships. I realized that although American dating styles are not vastly different from Korean ones, there are still noticeable differences.

4. What did you learn about yourself?

Through the tour, while admiring the breathtaking scenery, I found myself thinking a lot about my parents. I felt a strong desire to visit such beautiful places with them. At the same time, I realized that I haven't visited many beautiful places with my parents in the past, which left me feeling a sense of guilt. This made me resolve to visit such wonderful places with my family in the future.

5. What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?

I am currently working on building a CDPR prototype model. Since all the materials are ready, it just needs to be assembled and the wires connected for it to be operational. If all goes well, I plan to complete the assembly by the end of today. Additionally, within this week, I aim to connect all the wires and activate the motors for pipe movement and length adjustment, completing a CDPR model that meets its intended purpose.
