Week 1
Photo of the week
This week, I visited the Las Vegas Strip for the first time. The lights, music, and energy of the place were amazing! I took a photo of the New york New york hotel, paris hotel at night they were beautiful and very different from anything I’ve seen before.
New person (outside of DASL) that you met
This week, I got to know my suitemates, Shreyash and Hiten, who live in the room next to mine. Shreyash is from India, and Hiten is from Dubai. They were very friendly and invited me to join them for a walk to 7-Eleven one evening. On the way, we talked about where we’re from, our favorite snacks, and how we’re adjusting to life in Las Vegas. It reminded me of hanging out with friends back home in India. I felt really comfortable around them, and I’m glad we’ve started building a friendship.
What institutional of American/Vegas cultural insight did you learn this week?
I’ve started using the local RTC bus to get around Las Vegas. I was surprised by how organized and clean it is. The buses even announce each stop clearly. Compared to where I’m from, public transportation here feels very convenient and accessible, especially with the student pass.
What did you learn about yourself?
I noticed that I feel excited and curious when I try new tools like Unity. I used to think coding was only for assignments, but now I enjoy learning because I see how it can help me build real things. This week, I realized that I’m becoming more independent and open to new challenges.
What is the status of your technical projects and what skills did you learn?
This week, I installed and set up Unity on my laptop. I also started learning C# programming, which is used in Unity to make objects move and interact. At first, it felt a little hard, but I’m slowly getting better. I followed a few beginner tutorials and then started working on studio.
