My Research Internship at UNLV: Exploring New Frontiers
Photo of the week
Week 1
As a research intern at the DASL, I've had the incredible opportunity to dive into the world of robotics. This hands-on experience has been both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to expand my skills and knowledge in ways I hadn't imagined.
Drone Flight Testing: A New Challenge
Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in drone flight testing with Koreen, marking my first time flying a drone. Initially, the experience was difficult and a bit scary—handling the controls and keeping the drone stable required a lot of focus. However, with practice, I'm becoming more comfortable with it.
The F1TENTH Project: A Hands-On Learning Experience
The F1TENTH project has been at the core of my internship. This exciting initiative involves developing and testing autonomous vehicles on a smaller scale, making it the perfect platform to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. From understanding the intricacies of vehicle dynamics to programming the Jetson Nano, every step has been a learning experience.
Adjusting to Life in Las Vegas
Moving from India to Las Vegas has been a significant change, especially when it comes to the weather. The arid desert climate of Las Vegas is a stark contrast to what I'm used to, and it took some time to adjust. However, this change has also been part of the adventure, adding to the overall experience of living and working in a new environment.
A Supportive Lab Environment
DASL has been a great place to work and learn. The team is made up of individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also supportive and easy to work with. One of the lab members, Francis, has been particularly helpful when tackling the more complex aspects of our projects. His insights have been valuable, and his sense of humor helps keep the atmosphere relaxed and productive. Overall, the collaborative nature of the lab has made it an enjoyable place to work.
