-This weekend, some of the REU students hiked up a trail near Reno called Hunter Creek which led to a waterfall. Overall this was a nice bonding experience with my peers. The main reason I chose it is because I find it surprising seeing waterfalls in the desert. There are none in Las Vegas so everytime I encounter one, it is a great scene  +
 +This weekend, we decided to hike some local trials that are close to campus to take break from being on campus all day. The main reason I selected this picture is because the nature of Reno is a good way to distress and overall reflect on the week. There are several of these trails to do close to campus which is completely different from UNLV which is in the middle of the city

 ==== Weekly Progress/ Next Week Plans ==== ==== Weekly Progress/ Next Week Plans ====

-The second week consisted of presenting timeline for the 10 weeks and sharing one's project proposal to the rest of the participantsThe goal is to experiment an existing algorithm on a Pioneer P3DX robot attached with a laser scanner. This weeks workshops also consisted of an introduction to ROS taught by a Phd student on Thursday, and Tuesday was time management.  +The third week I continued to work on what I proposed last week. I successfully made subscriber that subscribed to the messages being sent by the laser package, and it states the number of people that are in the frameI am currently working on making service which will print the locations of the people whenever the service is called. Next week I will try to get the Pioneer started up and learn how to operate it. I will also install the navigation and localization packages it requires and study their purpose. This weeks workshops consisted of peer review and editing which provide useful insight when editing papers. I also finished the related work section of the paper deliverable this week.

-This week focused on experimenting with different leg detector packages as well as different laser scanner. I tried three different leg packages to see which provided the most accurate data, and did the same between the two laser scanners (hokuyo lidar and RP Lidar A3). I have decided which package I will be using and how to interpret the data coming every incoming scan. I was also tasked with writing the introduction and an abstract for the paper that is expected at the end of the 10 weeks. Next week I hope to write the subscriber to the messages and try to interpret it with the existing algorithm. +==== What Learned about Myself ====

 +I learned that I chose the right major as I would not want to do computer science as a career. It is an important skill to know, yet I do not find the passion for doing it 24/7. I plan on improving my skills this summer for projects in the lab, yet try to incorporate it with some mechanical engineering application.

-==== What I Learned about Myself ==== +
-I learned that I need to focus on a specific project and try to finish that. This socially aware navigation project has been going on for several years and it will be difficult to interpret it all in 10 weeks as it involves machine learning and other advanced CS topics which are subjects I am unfamiliar with. I will try to focus more on ROS as I feel it is more useful to know for the lab.  +
 ==== New Person That I Met ==== ==== New Person That I Met ====

-This week I got to know my room mate Tomo a bit more. He attends the University of Nebraska and is studying computer science. He is the youngest in the program as an incoming sophomore and is working with lasers for an intent recognition project+This week I got to know my graduate mentor more. His name is Santosh Banisetty and he was talking about his Phd experience as well as internships. He gave some insight on a Tesla internship that he went through last year which was interesting as well as his plans after graduation (in December), which are to create an open source robot
