This page is intend to register the weekly progress of the CNC Shop activities.

Week 1

Setting up the CNC Machine properly is very important. In order to safely turn the CNC machine on follow the steps below:

* 01/26/2017 09:00AM to 11:00AM

-Setting up the machine;
-Create a inventory of tools in the machine shop;
-Develop a G code to flat a wood part using a flat mill, in other words produce a full flat surface on the wood block using a 1/4'' flat mill.

Things to do by next section:
- Try to find some cut'offs
- Study the G code created during this section
- Ask for the Mastercan UNLV licence (Talk w/ Dr Oh regarding this matter)
- The doors of the machine were not properly installed (need to be fixed)

Problems:
- The coolant must be bought!
- Aluminium cut-offs must be inquired!
- Buy some extra equipament to safely operate the machine
- The doors of the machine were not properly installed (need to be fixed)

Week 2

* 01/31/2017 09:00AM to 11:30AM

-Flat a surface using a composite wood (4“ by 3”)( This time we reached a high precision surface);

-Work in a profile 2“ by 1” at the center of the wood block with a 0.375 angle;

-Use the fly cutter.

Things to do by next section:
- Get Aluminium the cut'offs
- Study both G code created during this section
- Try to cut profile+pocket
- Continue learning Cam on Fusion 360

Problems:
- We still have no coolant !
- Aluminium cut-offs must be inquired!

* 02/02/2017 08:50AM to 11:45AM

-Flat a surface using Aluminum

dsc_5551a.jpg dsc_5552a.jpg

Things to do by next section:
- Try to cut profile+pocket
- Desing the first part using Cam on Fusion 360

Problems:
- We need more coolant !
- Buy some extra equipment!

Week 3

* 02/06/2017 09:00AM to 11:10AM

-Prepare the coolant to add in the machine;
-Facing with 3/16“ end mill using 5000RPM and feedrate of 200 /mim

-Removing tool marks using using the fly cutter plus the coolant

Things to do by next section:
- Measure the precision of the flat surface using the Dial gauge and edge gauge.
- Profile a rectangle on Aluminium

Problems:
- We need to buy parallel bars ASAPin order to proper set the parts on the vice !
- The machine is leaking on the left back side due improper installation!
- Change the manual doors.

* 02/07/2017 08:50AM to 11:20AM

-Measure the accuracy on the milled surface produce in the previous section;
* Dial Gauge

* Edge Gauge

- Profile a rectangle on Aluminium using 5000RPM and feedrate of 200 /mim

Things to do by next section:
- Pocket the Aluminium.
- fix the leakage with silicone

Problems:
- Tools are diapering from the machine shop (Start to label the machine shop essential equipment

* 02/09/2017 08:55AM to 11:10AM

-Mill a 1 by 1” pocket on a 1.5“ by 1.5” profile use a 3/16“ HSS end mill;
dsc_5579.jpg dsc_5580.jpg

dsc_5581.jpg

- Pocket a rectangle on Aluminium using 5000RPM and feedrate of 200 /mim
- The second run was also unsuccessful, due bad reference values. dsc_5585.jpg

Things to do by next section:
- Again try to make a pocket the Aluminium.(NOW MAKE SURE TO TRY OUT WITH THE VICE UP A LITTLE)
- Rearrange the Fusion 360 program.

Problems:
- because of the high feed-rate of 200 the end mill broke

Week 4

* 02/14/2017 08:45AM to 11:23AM

-Use the edge finder to verify how parallel the surface is. We found a ten thousandth of inch precision.
dsc_5598.jpg

- We were using the fly cutter improperly. The right position of the tool is shown below

dsc_5596.jpg

- Use a new software to estimate the right feedrate speeds.

dsc_5602.jpg

Things to do by next section:
- Finish a precise profile and a circular pocket

Problems:
- ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO TRY OUT THE CYCLE AT A HIGHER Z POSITION FOR A SAFETY TRYOUT.

* 02/16/2017 08:55AM to 11:10AM

- Make a circular pocket with 0.01 of precision
dsc_5608.jpg

dsc_5611.jpg

- Prepare the Aluminium block to finally use fusion 360 G code to machine a pre-design part.

Things to do by next section:
- Go to local market to but extra drills

Problems:
- USE THE SMOOTH MALLET TO remove the tool from the spindle
